Once the necropsy has been completed, the pathologists decide whether further examinations (e.g. histology, microbiological pathogen detection, etc.) should be initiated. The analysis of organ samples taken at necropsy usually takes several days, depending on the examination initiated.
In the case of urgent suspected cases or stock problems, the pathology department will issue an interim report by telephone or in writing, stating that the investigations have not yet been completed.
A final necropsy report is only drawn up once all examinations have been completed. The findings, diagnoses and any interpretations by the pathologists are listed here. The dispatch of these reports can therefore take between a few days and 2-3 weeks, in complex special cases even longer. The reports are usually written in German and in veterinary terminology, i.e. the addressees are usually the attending veterinarians. The reports can also be written in English on request.
If our clients have any questions or urgent problems, they can call us during our office hours for information on the status of the diagnosis of their case (+41 31 684 24 68). For reasons of confidentiality, however, only the person making the request, usually the attending veterinarian, will be informed.
